About Us

Akron Rescue Cats was born in November 2023 out of a desperate need to help a group of 27
stray cats living at a campground in Akron, NY, before the harsh winter set in.

What began as a few volunteers coming together to assess the situation, quickly blossomed into something much greater
as the need in our community became more apparent. Every day, we received more messages and pleas for help from those
encountering injured, sick, starving, and abandoned cats. In just our first two months, we rescued 56 cats and kittens from
life on the streets, and yet, it seemed like there were always more in need. By 2024, we had rescued 322 additional cats
from our area, bringing our total rescues to over 378.

Along the way, we’ve also found loving homes for over 200 cats through our adoption efforts. Our days are filled with feeding,
cleaning, comforting, healing, and planning, alongside moments of joy, heartache, and little sleep. But there is still so much
more work to be done. Our mission is simple: to end the needless suffering of stray, feral, and community cats, to address the
out-of-control overpopulation, and to provide proper medical care for those in need.

We believe in bringing our community together, pooling resources to share with those in need, and offering compassionate,
judgment-free support to those seeking help. The journey to creating Akron Rescue Cats was not something we planned,
but rather, something that unfolded organically. Four women from very different backgrounds, at different stages in life,
came together for a shared cause—and somehow, everything just clicked. Though we each brought our own experiences
and perspectives, our love for animals and our desire to make a difference united us in a way that felt like destiny.

Through the toughest challenges—sleepless nights, overwhelming numbers of rescues, and moments of uncertainty
—we formed a bond that continues to guide us. This deep connection has kept us moving forward when things felt impossible,
and it’s the foundation of everything we do. Together, we’ve created something stronger than we could have ever imagined,
and it’s this bond that helps us face each new challenge with hope, determination, and a shared commitment to our mission.

A long-term goal for Akron Rescue Cats is the establishment of a permanent adoption center, where we can provide a
dedicated space for cats to find loving homes. But this vision is more than just about adoptions. We also plan to
create a large indoor and outdoor enclosed sanctuary for cats who have nowhere else to go, and are not yet ready for adoption.
Many of these cats require time, patience, and specialized care before they can be considered for a home, and for those who may
never be ready, we want to offer them a safe, permanent space with us. This sanctuary will give them the security and comfort
they need to thrive, with the ongoing support of our team, until they are ready for adoption—or for the rest of their lives if they are not.
